Sculpture

Ce document est uniquement disponible en anglais :
«For Maler, pure abstraction is the basis upon which he expresses the fundamental truths of life; something modern art shares with primitive and folk art. ‘There are works done by peasants, fetishistic carvings, and designs that are highly functional, highly abstract and highly aesthetic’, said the thirty-year old sculptor […] Maler works primarily in stone, marble, and wood. This influence comes from his early childhood, when his father, a village carpenter-mason, owned a quarry where Maler worked. […] ‘I think modern man doesn’t understand the fundamentals. He is too concerned with his theories and his rhetoric.’ While Maler is against the literary approach to art where theories are given primacy over the actual work itself, he does have some views on it. Maler sees how theory is limiting to full expression. Yet, in the modern context, people seek an explanation or justification of the art work. Because Maler deals mostly with pure abstract designs, he is sensitive to this unique dilemma of the 20th-century artist.»
