Jean-Marie Delavalle
From November 2nd 1982 to November 20th 1982
Plaques et cornières 1978-1982

The three pieces making up his Optica exhibition “Plaques et Cornières, 1978-1982”, this year, tie in with issues studied over the last few years. They are a return to the objects as such. One is unpainted steel and the other two are painted in plastic enamel with a brush.

Jean-Marie Delavalle was born in Clermont-Ferrand, France in 1944. He studied at l’École des Beax-Arts in Montreal from 1961 to 1965. He participated in a number of exhibitions in Quebec and in Canada. In 1971, he was one of three artists representing Canada at the Paris Biennale and in 1973 exhibited at the National Gallery of Canada. Last year, he showed at Galerie Articule in Montreal. The three sculptures were thought of as instruments, almost design in that they had a function: creating sensations for the visitor.
